I’m quite a nervous patient, but Niven put me a complete ease. He also inserted the cannula in my hand on his first attempt, whereas it’s normally quite an ordeal. On waking up from the anaesthetic he and his colleagues were singing away to Oasis, what’s not to like?! Absolutely brilliant! Another angel in disguise.

From the moment Niven introduced himself to me I could not have been cared for any better. He put me at my ease; he explained what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. Nivea’s bedside manner was just amazing. He returned to see me the next day and spoke again about what I needed to do post op; he was friendly and helpful and took time to ensure I understood what I needed to do to continue my recovery. Niven is clearly dedicated to his job and providing exceptional care; I cannot praise him highly enough. Thank you Niven.

I had a further operation at Springfield hospital yesterday morning and once again I received the best treatment possible. Both Dr Akotia and Mr Smith were professional but incredibly sensitive to any concerns and I had the most utmost confidence in how I was to be treated.

Niven Akotia has been the anaesthetist for the last 3 procedures I have received at Springfield Hospital. My only qualification to be able to provide this feedback is from my own experience, but each time I have felt assured of Niven’s competence, skill and professionalism. The extra level of care that comes with the experience is from his personal attributes of a positive and happy attitude, affable character and most of all, his humour. This provides an all-so-welcome distraction and reassures you that are in good hands both before and after your procedure putting you at ease at a stressful time as a patient. This is honestly top care and thank you Niven. It is so much appreciated.

Our Son Luke has DS. He was extremely nervous about having his operation. This all changed once we met with Niven at the review. His wonderful manor and lighthearted approached soon put ours and Luke at ease. He gave us confidence and reassurance. On the day of Luke's operation, Niven came into the room and Luke was so pleased to see him. Niven's bedside manor in both the ward and in theatre was outstanding. He was funny, caring and compassionate. Niven understood Luke's disability and needs. Niven made the whole Hospital experience easier for us as a family and especially for Luke. We are most grateful to this wonderful man.
